London architects: Schneider Designers

With a modernist vision, this boutique architecture firm specialises in high-end residential projects that turn clients’ visions into characterful homes. Schneider Designers work on a wide range of architectural projects, master planning schemes that maximise natural light and retain original details.

Let’s look at some of their innovative projects.

Understanding the brief

The ability to solve problems and tune in to the client’s wishes is a crucial part of the process, explained architecture practice director Jack Schneider:

An integral part of a successful project is understanding the client’s needs. By listening to your thoughts and ideas, our expertise enables us to develop your ideal home into a fully accomplished scheme. We approach each brief scheme thoroughly, addressing all design and construction process to ensure a seamless result. Whether it’s a home extension, renovation, new build, interior design, or basement conversion, we collaborate closely to manifest your vision.

One of their past projects involved a high-end renovation of this Holland Park villa which focused on sustainability. This urban design involved structural engineering skills to add a large basement extension and a new rear extension containing a family area (pictured above) and an open-plan kitchen.

Another great design by these London architects

Schneider Designers designed this new build home in a conservation area overlooking Golders Hill Park in central London for a family of four in 2006. Years later, impressed by this previous design, the homeowners approached the practice again to upgrade their home’s sustainably.

The renovation involved replacing heating and hot water systems with an air-source heat pump, adding photovoltaic panels for electricity, and improving insulation with efficient double-glazed aluminium windows. Bathrooms were upgraded, the kitchen was redesigned and equipped with new appliances while the joinery was rethought to match the updated style.

Initially, the client wanted to create a basement to accommodate a gym and ceramics studio, and the architects came up with a design and an estimate for the construction costs. While this scheme was abandoned by the client due to budget constraints, in response, Schneiders proposed an alternative solution, which involved adding two separate outbuildings.

The client chose this option, and the outbuildings were constructed, achieving a sustainable home that retains its original character. Thoughtful landscaping connected the buildings with the physical world to complete the project.

What we love about this architecture firm’s designs:

The architects are highly responsive to clients’ quests to create a dream home, and as the projects above show, are adept at master plans for large scale projects that maximise light.
