London architects: Tholos Architects offer a full design service

Tholos Architects is led by Italian-born architect Riccardo Fabrizio, who has many years of international experience in the construction industry. His specialism is high-end residential designs that combine luxury and style; he is also an advocate of regenerative architecture and alternative methods of construction. Riccardo was a winner of a Green Apple Environment Award 2022 for a great retrofit project in London.

One of this architecture firm’s innovative projects links a sleek kitchen to a light-filled dining area.

Tholos Architects, which started in 2019, provides a one-stop-shop for architecture and interior solutions, thanks to its well-tested multi-disciplinary approach, expert partner consultants, trusted suppliers and contractors. Its specialties lie in residential projects: retrofitting existing properties, new housing, helping self-builders, dealing with planning and building control, interior design, sustainability projects, construction management, master planning, landscape design and structural engineering.

With offices in London and the Midlands, this design firm offers friendly and reliable customer service. It helps clients with project preparation and offers 3D reality tours of schemes to ensure that clients are given the best possible idea of how the design will look in the physical world. It can also provide thermographic surveys and reports to resolve heat loss problems.

Whether tasked with creating a new urban design or giving a second life to an existing property, Tholos Architects relishes the opportunity to imagine a better lifestyle for its clients, through sustainable architecture that delivers future-proof solutions. The outcomes are functional, beautiful designs that embody timeless principles.

Beautiful flat renovation

The renovation of this flat on Holmdene Avenue in Southwark, South London was designed and delivered by Tholos Architects in 2020 and resulted in a stunning character property. It beautifully illustrates how this architecture firm’s projects create architecture that’s perfectly fitted to its surroundings.

The client owned a share of a freehold flat in a historic mid-terrace house on a hillside. The flat was gloomy: a long corridor made the kitchen, living and children’s room cramped and impractical and there was limited storage space.

With a budget of £50,000 – £100,000, the main design challenge was to recreate the aesthetics desired by the client, coordinate the works including structural alterations, and complete the project to a good quality level. The scheme also involved liaising with neighbours and other share-of-freeholders.

Design skills

Tholos Architects’ experience in design and construction came to the fore in redesigning this space to maximise its functionality. An efficient open plan layout was created, with a beautiful show kitchen and classic European-inspired look, pairing Scandi and Italian furnishings with English and French décor. The result is a balanced and impressive interior, flooded with natural light. The firm’s design skills and astute use of the budget allowed the delivery of a more opulent finish than originally envisioned by the client.

The continued involvement of the design team during the construction and fit-out stage played a key role in ensuring a smooth liaison with all the relevant parties and timely delivery of both detail and decoration.

What we like about his London architectural practice:

When retrofitting older properties this firm achieves amazing results. It effortlessly combines luxurious touches that are sympathetic to the age of the building in question, with practical elements to ensure it is suitable for modern-day living.
