London architects WindsorPatania: architectural and investment expertise

English heritage and craftsmanship meet Italian design flair in this architectural practice that puts an emphasis on sustainability. It was founded in 2017 by Ryan Windsor and Giovanni Patania, who shared a vision to create a firm that could be a global leader in sustainable architecture and create functional, aesthetically pleasing and environmentally efficient buildings.

A RIBA chartered practice, WindsorPatania uses the latest technology to achieve its eye-catching schemes, and work includes residential new builds, retrofitting, private homes, extensions and commercial architecture. This London architects firm uses eco-friendly materials to create energy-efficient spaces with up-to-the-minute smart home features.

Architectural planning services

These include consultation calls, feasibility studies, architectural design, obtaining planning permission, interior design, building regulations approval compliance and project management. The team aims to work closely with clients to understand their requirements, and includes interior designers, architectural technologists, architects and sustainability experts. This experienced London architect practice has worked with over 150 city councils since it started out.

Development director Ryan Windsor explained:

We really care about the customer journey, so we developed a suite of products for our clients, starting from pre-purchase feasibility appraisals, so they don’t get stung buying a building that is unlikely to get planning, to full architectural service until project completion.

What we bring to our clients that is perhaps more unique is our architectural and investment expertise. Some of our clients are extending their private residences, often their biggest investment, and others are professional developers. Both are concerned not only with creating enjoyable and comfortable spaces, but ideally doing so while adding value to the property.

Good design means connecting to the natural world

Norfolk House, pictured below, is another one of WindsorPatania’s outstanding projects that we love. The brief was to create a house that looks contemporary, minimalist and unique, with a strong connection to nature which is achieved via a timber finish and large windows.

Norfolk House, a 1970’s contemporary private home in the countryside near Birmingham, was remodelled and extended to cater for a growing family.

Striking elements include the kitchen which provides a base for the family’s social life, with entertaining playing an important role, and the connection to the garden. The layout makes for easy navigation through the ground floor with dedicated spaces for family activities.

The dining area overlooks the garden and is a focal point on entering the house, with the garden in the background, connecting the house to the natural world. The design includes a large window overlooking the garden to make it an integral part of the overall design and maximise the amount of natural light entering the house. Double-glazed units and aluminium frames help create a sleek look.

The architects retained the original faҫade and enhanced the rear of the house by extending the ground floor by six metres and the first floor by three meters. The use of reflective bricks provides a modern aesthetic to this property which is built in a traditionally British style of architecture. The ground floor boasts a cinema room and second living room, while the first floor includes a spacious master bedroom with a private terrace, along with children’s bedrooms and guest rooms.
